This film is more than the history of an industry, it goes further to see the story through the eyes of the men and women that created the technology and imagery that helped define a whole new category of communication. Today computer graphics are invisibly involved in nearly every aspect of our modern life, but many might be surprised and inspired to learn of the missteps and successes that led us to this point. The NEW Story of Computer Graphics is SIGGRAPH's effort to update and improve upon the original 1999 production which was narrated by the late Leonard Nimoy. Even in 1999 SIGGRAPH took the unusual step of shooting in an untested the the new HD format. There was only one professional camcorder available at the time and there were only 3 post houses in the US that could handle mastering the HD footage. Over 60 CG pioneers were interviewed from all over the world to capture a first person perceptive of a growing movement. A revolution that came to be chronicled each year at the SIGGRAPH conference. Now SIGGRAPH is taking that footage and adding more, much of which has been shot in 4K, to update the film and make it even more exciting. Stay tuned for more information on the new edition of what many already consider must viewing for anyone with a curiosity about computer graphics.
